By: Magnolia Tribune - June 3, 2015

Trent Kelly easily wins Mississippi House seat

With all 426 precincts districtwide reporting late Tuesday evening, Kelly, 49, had 68,852 votes, or 70 percent, according to the unofficial totals. Zinn, 34, of Pontotoc, had 29,402 votes, or 30 percent.

In DeSoto County, one of the most populous counties in the district, Kelly got 9,734 votes, or 78 percent, compared with 2,695 votes, or 22 percent, for Zinn. The DeSoto totals are complete, unofficial results from 39 of 39 precincts.

“We ran a very simple campaign, and it was about who I am and why I want to be a congressman,” Kelly told supporters at his victory party Tuesday night in Tupelo. “God is first in my life.”

National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden congratulated Kelly in a statement from Washington.

“I look forward to having Trent join our Conference and to see him fight for the First District in Washington,” Walden said.
