Cochran: Senate should “exercise strict oversight of Obama administration’s negotiations with Iran

RELEASE:

COCHRAN STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF THE IRAN NUCLEAR AGREEMENT REVIEW ACT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), chairman of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, today offered the following statement after the Senate approved the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (HR.1191) on a 98-1 vote. Cochran cosponsored the Senate legislation.

“This overwhelming bipartisan vote shows the constitutional role of the Senate in setting our country’s foreign policy. The American people, through their elected representatives, should have the opportunity to voice their concerns and exercise strict oversight of the Obama administration’s negotiations with Iran. This legislation will help ensure that any Iran deal must be verifiable, enforceable and accountable, while allowing Congress to rapidly restore sanctions if Iran violates the terms of the deal. This vote is a significant step in the right direction. ”
