State Auditor Stacey Pickering responds to Madison mayor’s claims against him
Just last week, Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler claimed the Madison County Board of Supervisors and Rudy Warnock, the county engineer, are corrupt even after Pickering completed an audit. He said in an interview with WJTV’s Malary Pullen:
“After 10 months of auditing four divisions of this office, as well as probably half a dozen attorneys from our office, the attorney general’s office, federal agents, it became very clear that the financial issues, that part of the house was in order. Madison mayor mary hawkins butler claims a 2010 state audit is incomplete…Part of that audit is about contracts between the Madison County Board of Supervisors and county engineer Rudy Warnock. Who’s also the owner of Warnock and Associates.”
Hawkins Butler responded by saying “…the work is being subbed out and marked up and those subcontracts belong to the engineer.”
She also claims Warnock is hiring a subcontractor to do all the work, hiking up the price of the project…However, Pickering disputes those claims saying, “Now when you get in to overpay, that’s an issue that the board is going to have to address. What we look for in this investigation, this performance has strictly to do with were the laws of the state of Mississippi followed and that’s exactly what we found. No law had been broken.”
