PSC to take up net metering proposal

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 3, 2015

Net metering to be considered

The Mississippi Public Service Commission (PSC) is expected next week to take up a proposal to allow public comment on a plan to approve “net metering,” or the ability to charge back to utilities solar power produced but not used by homeowners.

Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley described the plan to the Olive Branch Rotary Club meeting on Tuesday.

Net metering allows residents who produce their own electricity through solar panels to be able to charge back what they don’t use during the daylight hours to their electric utility, amounting to a discount on their power bills.

Many states have passed net metering laws while others have offered programs as a result of regulatory decisions. The Mississippi PSC is expected to take public comment on the plan until May 1.
