Special Election to be Set to Fill Congressional Seat
Jackson, Miss.
Gov. Phil Bryant will set a special election later this year to fill a congressional seat in north Mississippi.
Republican U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee was first elected to the seat in 2010 and died Friday. He was sworn in last month to begin his third, two-year term.
State law says that within 60 days of the seat becoming vacant, the governor must issue an order to set a special election. The date the governor chooses must be at least 60 days after he issues the order.
