Cochran marks state’s progress

During his address to the Rotary Club, Cochran acknowledged that Washington has changed over the years.

The nation’s security and those charged with protecting the president need to have adequate resources to do the job, according to Cochran.

“We need to be generous when it comes to protecting whoever is in the White House,” Cochran said.

Cochran said to his knowledge and in his opinion, the First Family has not expressed major alarm at the recent security breaches allowed by the U.S. Secret Service.

“They’re as safe as they want to be,” Cochran said. “They don’t want to give the impression that they are in any danger.”

Cochran said he has been to the White House a few times, mostly on formal occasions, and has personally known many of the nation’s leaders. Cochran said Mississippi has benefitted from that access.

“I’m glad to have had the access that we’ve had,” Cochran said. “It’s important to work with the President and all the department heads, adding that’s true even when people in both parties disagree.
