Chris McDaniel: Thad Cochran camp resorting to fear tactics as runoff nears

WADE, Mississippi — U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran’s campaigners have “pushed the panic button” and resorted to preying on Jackson Countians’ fears to win votes, Republican primary runoff challenger state Sen. Chris McDaniel said today during a campaign stop in Wade.

“The only chance Cochran’s got now are fear tactics and fear mongering and Democrats,” McDaniel said to supporters at the Catfish Point restaurant.

“They’re trying to paint me down here as someone who would somehow be against Ingalls,” he said. “My grandfather worked for Ingalls.”

With only eight days left before the June 24 runoff, both McDaniel and the longtime incumbent senator have been making rounds in Jackson County.

Cochran campaigned in Jackson County last week, meeting with business leaders and public officials Thursday afternoon and then greeting workers at Ingalls Shipbuilding early Friday morning.

Today, McDaniel greeted workers during a shift change at VT Halter Marine and was in Pascagoula’s Downtown Plaza greeting diners at Scranton’s and Paradise Deli and Grill during lunch. After Catfish Point, he was headed to St. Martin Community Center for another event.

He also plans to be at Ingalls early Tuesday morning.
