At least 100 active and retired state troopers and family members are expected to rally at the Capitol on Wednesday — a “blue-out” to lobby lawmakers to add more Highway Patrol troopers to the roads.
The event is being organized by the Mississippi State Troopers Association. Association President Master Sgt. Jimmie Thomas said all the active troopers involved will be off duty and driving personal vehicles.
“This is an effort to bring our plea for a trooper school,” Thomas said. “We are at the lowest manpower level we’ve been in probably a decade. … We are trying to present the issue to everyone, not just elected officials but the general public. … We won’t be shouting anything negative; we must remain positive, but we will present the numbers and the concerns.”
