Mississippi Voter ID cards for voting purposes only

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 4, 2014

Release from Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann:

Some Circuit Clerks around the State have contacted the Secretary of State’s office regarding the number of individuals attempting to obtain a Mississippi Voter ID card, when they already have an acceptable form of voter ID.

“Only Mississippi voters who lack an acceptable form of voter ID are eligible for a Mississippi voter ID card,” says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “The State will not pay for a Mississippi Voter ID card if you already have another form of acceptable photo identification.”

A Mississippi Voter ID card is designed to be used for voting purposes only. It is not meant to replace any other form of identification.

“The Mississippi Voter ID card does not contain your birthdate or other personal information,” says Secretary Hosemann. “Along with security features, only your name, address, county, and photograph appear on the card.”
