Gulfport mayor sprinkles morning speech with humor
Hewes, who took office in July, said Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt wanted to know if his job was secure. Hewes said he told Beyerstedt: “That depends on how you look in a red dress,” and then a photo flashed on the screen of Beyerstedt and male colleagues in red dresses for a charity event.
But, seriously, Hewes said, a lot is going on in the city. A list of priorities awaits BP catastrophe funding, including proposed projects to improve Turkey and Coffee Creeks and Brickyard Bayou.
