Bryant, Gingrich tout Mississippi’s energy resources
Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich says Mississippi has a great opportunity to become a leader in homegrown energy development through efforts like Mississippi Power’s clean-coal plant being built in Kemper County.
Gingrich was the keynote speaker Thursday at the Governor’s Energy Summit at the Jackson Convention Complex. He and Gov. Phil Bryant talked about the state’s available resources, from natural gas to biomass, and the presidents of some of the state’s top universities and other representatives from academia spoke of specific fields where Mississippi can attract jobs and research.
Gingrich said such development can work best if companies are left alone by the federal government so they can concentrate on what they do best. He said “lower taxes” and “less regulation” will help.
