Huntington Ingalls Opens New Maritime Training Academy in Pascagoula

Huntington Ingalls Industries will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday to open the company’s Haley Reeves Barbour Maritime Training Academy in Pascagoula, Miss.

The institution will house training facilities, shipbuilding laboratories and classrooms for 14 apprentice programs and more than 120 courses that last from two to four years, Huntington Ingalls said Monday.

Attendees will include former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, HII President and CEO Mike Petters, Ingalls Shipbuilding President Irwin Edenzon and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College President Dr. Irwin Edenzon.

Ingalls’ apprentice school has produced more than 4,000 graduates since 1952, the company says.
