Palazzo introduces bill setting Congressional term limits
U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo of Gulfport has introduced legislation that, if adopted, would result in a Constitutional amendment setting the number of consecutive years members of Congress could serve at 12.
“There has been a lot of discussion on this since I came into office,” Palazzo told The Mississippi Press in a phone interview Thursday. “It’s not new to me, but I wanted to introduce my own bill.”
Palazzo said he believes it’s important that legislators know they will be returning to their home states and have to live under the laws they create.
“I don’t think we’d have Obamacare if member of Congress knew they would have to go home and live by it,” he said.
Palazzo’s bill would limit members of the U.S. Senate to two consecutive six-year terms and members of the House of Representatives to four consecutive two-year terms. Under the provision’s of the bill, members could run again for Congress one year from the end of their last term.
