Wicker takes cover as shots fired near Capitol
Republican Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi said he was walking from the Capitol to his office on Thursday when he noticed a commotion involving police officers and heard gunfire.
“I said, ‘Oh my goodness. That was real,’” Wicker recalled. “It then became apparent to me that I did not need to continue in that direction.”
Wicker said he took cover behind a parked SUV, the biggest vehicle he could find. Soon after, he said, Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont hurried by.
“I said, ‘Get over here,’” Wicker said.
