Rules bent for Bentz to be hired
Take the Southern Mississippi Planning & Development District, an agency that resides below the radar if ever there was one. For months, the SMPDD has been looking for a new executive director.
Last week, Leonard Bentz Jr. got the job.
According to the Associated Press, “During the search, the district’s board altered its qualifications so that it could hire someone without a college degree, which Bentz doesn’t have.”
The first most South Mississippians heard of that opening was shortly before Bentz got the job. And Bentz’s father, Leonard Bentz Sr., was on the SMPDD board until he stepped down as a condition of his son’s employment.
Was Bentz Jr. the most qualified?
