Vicksburg Mayor-Elect to Resign From Mississippi House of Representatives

Representative George Flaggs (D-Vicksburg) will officially resign as the representative from District 55-Warren County on June 30 after serving in the Mississippi House of Representatives for 26 years.

On June 30, Rep. Flaggs will step down as a state representative to be sworn in to office as the new mayor of Vicksburg. Speaker of the House Philip Gunn will officiate his inauguration. The event will take place at 6 p.m. at the Vicksburg City Auditorium and is open to the public.

“Serving in the Mississippi House of Representatives has been an amazing journey,” said Rep. Flaggs. “I’ve grown a lot during my time here, and I’m thankful for everything I’ve learned and accomplished through the years. The decisions I’ve made and the relationships I’ve cultivated motivated me to run for Mayor of Vicksburg where I can be more hands-on with the city and the people.
