MICHAEL NEWSOM: New regime, new network at DMR

I’m starting to wonder if much has really changed at the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources.

A few months back, Jamie Miller replaced Bill Walker as DMR executive director. Walker was fired amid state and federal investigations of the agency’s spending under his leadership. Miller, a staffer for former Gov. Haley Barbour and former chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo, was seen by some as a political pick.

But Miller busted in the door talking about openness and accountability during the news conference announcing his hiring. Confetti fell from the ceiling, cheers erupted, celebratory cannons blasted … not really, but you get the idea. A new day had dawned.
