Dupree advances in re-election bid
Johnny DuPree is one step closer to a fourth term as Hattiesburg’s mayor.
DuPree topped two other candidates in Tuesday’s Democratic primary by more than 2,400 votes. He will face four independent candidates in the June 4 general election.
Moving into the general election, DuPree said his campaign’s focus will stay where it always has been — on his record of public service.
“I think what helps is we have a record, a record that hopefully resonates with voters,” he said. “My record shows consistency in public service, and we’re going to do the same things that got us here. I certainly appreciate the voters and volunteers for their work. Most importantly, I couldn’t do this without God, and I prayed to him that I would be victorious.”
