Bryant sets special election for Upshaw’s South Mississippi House seat

Gov. Phil Bryant set May 14 as the date for a special election to fill the seat of Rep. Jessica Upshaw, who died March 24.

The governor made the announcement Wednesday. The election would be for the House District 95 seat, which covers Diamondhead and parts of Harrison and Hancock counties.

According to the governor’s office, the qualifying deadline is April 15. If no candidate gets a majority in the May 14 vote, a runoff will be held June 4, the date of municipal elections.
