West Point Democrat David Gibbs resigns from Mississippi Legislature
Longtime state Rep. David Gibbs, D-West Point, is resigning from the Legislature, House Speaker Philip Gunn announced today.
“He indicated that his health is such that he cannot continue on here, and needs to spend time with his wife and family,” said Gunn, who asked lawmakers to pray for Gibbs.
Gibbs, a loan broker and consultant, has served in the House District 36 seat representing Clay, Lowndes and Monroe counties since 1993. He had been serving on the Agriculture, Appropriations, County Affairs and Youth and Family Affairs committees, and is former chairman of the County Affairs Committee.
