Harper Works For Special Needs Children

By: Magnolia Tribune - September 10, 2012

Dear Friend,

Like my wife, Sidney, and me, many families in Mississippi are blessed with a special needs child. When I took the Oath of Office to serve in Congress, I made clear my passion for working with those who are disabled on important disability issues.

Earlier this summer, I successfully included a provision in the bipartisan pharmaceutical user fee agreement extending market exclusivity for innovative drug developments that treat Fragile X Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorders and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Recent clinical studies dedicated to medicines for intellectual disabilities have presented promising findings in treatments that target the primary causes of these conditions.

Additionally, I was honored to introduce a legislative package that aims to streamline federal programs and services intended to promote youth with significant disabilities in transition from adolescence to adulthood.

With the help of disability advocates from Mississippi and across the country, we can inspire continued gains in this area so that our special needs children can reach their maximum potential.

God bless,

Gregg Harper

Member of Congress
