Defiant Davis disputes debt during hearing on garnishment
JACKSON, Miss. — A defiant Southaven Mayor Greg Davis disputed on the witness stand Thursday that he owed more than $170,000 ordered repaid by state Auditor Stacey Pickering and said he will sue to get back $96,000 of that total already repaid to the city.
Davis’s comments came in a hearing before Hinds County Chancellor Dewayne Thomas at which the mayor is seeking to block Pickering from garnishing Davis’ $3,700 bi-weekly paycheck to help recover the more than $70,000 still unpaid.
