Harper – Americans deserve answers on gun-walking program
Dear Friend,
House lawmakers voted today to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to produce documents related to the Obama administration’s botched Fast and Furious program.
A House investigation was launched nearly 18 months ago in quest of details concerning the reckless Justice Department operation that provided arms to Mexican drug cartels. The plan, dubbed as Operation Fast and Furious, aimed to track weapons to high-level cartel figures, but tragically ended with the deaths of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent and countless innocent Mexican citizens.
The House Oversight Committee study has produced shocking facts, including attempts by the Justice Department to cover up mismanagement and false allegations that the agency whistleblowers were not telling the truth. Moreover, the White House invoked executive privilege in withholding key papers explaining the collapse of the operation even though the president had previously denied any involvement.
American citizens deserve answers about this poorly implemented program. The whistleblowers’ comments merit a thorough investigation. While I prefer a less hostile course for resolving this matter, I will continue to exhaust legal authorities until the White House cooperates with congressional inquiries.
God bless,
Gregg Harper
