Desoto County reconsiders election for Senate vacancy
DeSoto County supervisors are rethinking their request to Gov. Phil Bryant to hold a special state Senate election in conjunction with the November general election.
“The argument both parties have made about a possible loss of representation if the election isn’t earlier is a good point,” Supervisor Mark Gardner of Southaven said Tuesday in regard to the anticipated election to fill the soon-to-be-vacated seat of state Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Olive Branch.
“I live in District 19, too,” Gardner said, “so at next Monday’s meeting it’s likely we’ll revisit the issue and just urge the governor to make a decision as soon as possible.”
