DeSoto County schools could get up to a $5 million shot in the arm if House members and Gov. Phil Bryant go along with the 2013 budget proposal Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves outlined Thursday.
Reeves’ spending plan would fully fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program in the 2013 fiscal year that begins July 1. Included in that total is an additional $5 million for high-growth school districts.
DeSoto County, which is the state’s largest and fastest-growing school system, added more than 400 students this school year, and that puts the district at the head of the line for high-growth money.
