Commercial Appeal round-up of legislative slow-down
Mississippi House Democrats, frustrated at being on the short end of a 63-59 partisan makeup for the first time since the 19th century, are making themselves heard in the state House of Representatives.
Legislators have the right to insist that every single word of a bill, whether it’s one or 70 pages long, be read aloud before they vote on it. That’s what Democrats did this week, beginning at mid-morning Wednesday.
House Democrats were angered over the way Speaker Pro Tempore Greg Snowden, R-Meridian, had handled an exchange with Rep. Willie Bailey, D-Greenville.
