Hot-topic bills pass the House
The Mississippi House did not consider charter school legislation before Thursday’s midnight deadline, but members did pass bills restricting abortion, further regulating voting procedures and reforming educational opportunities for students with disabilities.
House Education Committee Chairman John Moore, R-Brandon, said his bill to establish charter schools in Mississippi would die so the chamber could later consider the Senate’s version.
“It was a personal decision to not burden the House this week with an issue that I know we would all spend plenty of time on,” he said Thursday night.
