Steve Holland “disappointed” he’s not a chairman
…
But at least some of the more vocal Democrats of the past appeared to be slighted in the process.
Rep. Steve Holland, D-Plantersville, served on the Public Health or Medicaid committees for nearly three decades. He was appointed to neither this term. “That’s 28 years of public health experience down the drain,” he said. “I’m not displeased, I’m just disappointed.”
Holland said he wished Gunn would have recognized the institutional knowledge several long-serving Democrats, including himself, have.
Holland and other prominent Democrats who have served on the Appropriations Committee for several years – including the committee’s most recent chairman, Johnny Stringer – were not put back on that committee.
They were guaranteed a spot on one of the money committees because of seniority, but Gunn moved them to Ways and Means.
“I don’t know if he thought we were less harmless there or what,” Holland said.
