Jennings to chair Military Affairs

Jennings to chair Military Affairs

For the first time in the history of Mississippi politics, a woman will chair the House Military Affairs Committee, DeSoto County’s State Rep. Wanda Jennings, R-Southaven.

Jennings was one of several House lawmakers who received plum assignments from newly-elected House Speaker Philip Gunn, R-Clinton.

“I’m so very honored,” Jennings said as she made her way up I-55 from the State Capitol on Friday. “That will be exceptionally good for the county since we have three military units in the county.”

Jennings was first elected to her District 7 House post in 1997 to fill the seat of Southaven Mayor Greg Davis. The seat was once held by former Mississippi House member and best-selling novelist John Grisham.

“DeSoto County did extremely well,” Jennings said of her appointment along with those of other colleagues.
