DuVall and Ross seek party nominations for U.S. House

Former state Rep. Mark DuVall of Mantachie and former Eupora Mayor Henry Ross are back in campaign mode, this time both for the U.S. House of Representatives.

DuVall, a Democrat, sent his qualifying papers by mail, according to Rickey Cole, state party director.

DuVall was defeated last year for re-election to the Mississippi House to represent District 19.

He is the only Democrat so far to show public interest in trying to retake the 1st District U.S. House seat from the Republican Party, which defeated incumbent Rep. Travis Childers, D-Booneville, in 2010.

Rep. Alan Nunnelee, R-Tupelo, recently qualified to seek re-election as a Republican, along with Southaven businessman Robert Estes.
