Estes, Ross qualify for congress

Robert Estes announced his candidacy for United States Congress Monday, standing on the tread of a bulldozer in front of his Southaven business, Estes Grading and Trucking.

Robert Estes of Southaven and Henry Ross of Eupora each declared their candidacy for Congress Monday.

Alan Nunnelee defeated Ross and and Angela McGlowan two years ago in the Republican primary for his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and this year he will face off against two other Republican candidates in order to hold on to the District 1 seat.

Estes, owner of Estes Grading and Trucking, said he wants to focus on creating jobs for Americans.

“I’ve created jobs, I know how to create jobs and I know what destroys jobs,” Estes said as he announced his candidacy from atop a bulldozer in front of his Southaven business. “I also know the federal government cannot create jobs but they can create a friendly atmosphere where we the people can create jobs.”
