The Mississippi Legislature has convened the 2012 session in Jackson with Republicans controlling both chambers for the first time since Reconstruction.
DeSoto County’s three newly-elected state lawmakers say the state’s budget and other issues such as education and transportation will likely dominate the agenda in 2012.
Sen. Chris Massey, R-Hernando, his wife Cathy and other family members filled the upstairs visitors gallery overlooking the heavily ornate House chamber.
“I feel excitement and anticipation,” Massey said. “It’s been a few months since I was elected. I’m ready to get going and get to work.”
