Jackson Police Officer to receive Purple Heart today
Sgt. Walton McJordan III will receive one of the nation’s oldest military decorations this week.
McJordan, who is also a Jackson police officer, is being awarded the Purple Heart on Monday for injuries he sustained when the vehicle he was riding in struck an improvised explosive device in Iraq five years ago.
“It’s hard to put into words,” he said of the honor. “I’m grateful that I’m being recognized.”
McJordan, 43, first enlisted in the military in 1988, and he served in the Gulf War.
In 2006, he decided to re-enlist.
