Students favor GOP in mock election
They may be too young to vote, but students say Republican Phil Bryant will be Mississippi’s next governor.
The secretary of state’s office held its annual mock election for kindergarten through 12th-graders this week.
“In the past, we’ve found they’ve been a good indicator,” Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said in announcing the results at the Old Capitol on Thursday. “Historically, it’s been very close.”
Four years ago, students participating in the secretary of state-sponsored program correctly predicted the victors in the governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state and attorney general races.
In this year’s election, students favored Bryant over Democratic rival Johnny DuPree, 61 percent to 39 percent.
