Feinberg defends oil spill claims process to D.C. lawmakers
WASHINGTON — Gulf Coast Claims Facility leader Ken Feinberg defended his group’s handling of oil spill claims in testimony before lawmakers this morning.
“It isn’t perfect, but I think overall, we’re doing our job. We’re delivering on the president’s promise” to compensate the economic losses of individuals and businesses as a result of the spill, Feinberg told lawmakers.
He noted that as of Friday, the Claims Facility had reviewed the claims of nearly 550,000 people and businesses, awarding some 213,000 of them with more than $5.4 billion in total.
