Barbour taps Mav6 founder to chair Mississippi Defense Initiative

Vicksburg, MS (PRWEB) October 18, 2011

Mav6 today announced the appointment of Major General Buford “Buff” Blount, US Army (Retired), by Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour to Chair the newly formed Mississippi Defense Initiative (MDI). Blount is co-founder and Chairman of Mav6, LLC and a graduate of the University of Southern Miss.
“Major General Blount is a great choice for he has the expertise needed to successfully lead the Mississippi Defense Initiative,” Governor Barbour said. “The defense industry is a critical piece of our state’s economy, and MDI will play a vital role in advancing and supporting our research universities and defense companies.”
The Mississippi Defense Initiative will provide a statewide forum for the defense industry, economic developers, research universities, and state government leaders to position Mississippi for continued success and an increased presence across the defense industry. Blount commented, “I believe the Mississippi Defense Initiative will position Mississippi citizens, policymakers, companies, and universities to make an increasingly significant contribution to our national security.” He continued, “The MDI will also serve to assist military citizens returning to the civilian workforce.”
After a long and distinguished military career, Major General Blount retired from the United States Army in 2005. Perhaps best known for leading the U.S. Army’s Third Infantry Division to capture Baghdad during the 2003 invasion of Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, Blount’s accomplishments are impressive. His list of awards includes the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.
Mav6 was established in May 2007 by Major General Buford “Buff” Blount, USA (Retired), and Mr. Adam Jay Harrison to fill a need in the global defense and security market for rapidly conceived, concept-to-implementation technology solutions to emerging global security challenges. Inc. Magazine recently named Vicksburg, Mississippi-based Mav6 as the second fastest growing privately owned company in Mississippi.
