Simpson takes on Hood for AG post
Republican attorney general candidate Steve Simpson pulled few punches Wednesday before the Hattiesburg American’s Editorial Board as he made his case to supplant incumbent Democrat Jim Hood this November.
Simpson went after Hood – seeking his third term – on a number of issues ranging from Obamacare to keeping litigation dollars in state. He also accused Hood of playing partisan politics in office.
“You don’t get to pick which crimes to prosecute and which crimes not to. You fight crime wherever and whoever commits it,” Simpson said, citing a number of high-profile cases such as the Dickie Scruggs case.
“The attorney general is the state’s law office,” he continued. “It should be run like a law office, not like a partisan political piece of the chess game, and I think it has been for far too long.
