Feds get plea from local official for bribery

By: Magnolia Tribune - September 30, 2011

Bribe money never pocketed

A former Holmes County supervisor facing up to 10 years for bribery never cashed a $3,500 check he took and gave back another $3,500 in cash he received from a company contracted for debris removal from the 2010 tornadoes in Yazoo and Attala counties, officials said.

But U.S. District Judge William Barbour told Larry Dennis in court on Thursday, “The fact that you returned the money doesn’t affect your guilt.”
Dennis, 59, of Pickens pleaded guilty two weeks after his indictment was made public and six weeks before the Nov. 8 general election in which he was seeking a second term. He has resigned and can’t seek public office again or hold a government job.
