A new Facebook group hit the web this week, this one seeking to “Draft Philip Gunn for Speaker.”
Of course, Philip Gunn is Republican Representative Philip Gunn of House District 56. While there has been no formal announcement that he is seeking the Speaker post, word on the street has long been that Gunn would entertain the notion once he gets past the general election. Gunn is facing Democratic challenger Jim Culberson in November.
Gunn has served in the Mississippi House since 2004 and has been a leader in the Republican conference. He is an attorney with the firm of Wells Marble & Hurst.
The Facebook “Draft” Gunn group was established by friends of the HD 56 representative and is up to 269 followers as of this posting.
