Haley Barbour’s Iowa PAC director hired by Rick Perry
owa GOP operative Matt Gronewald has left his job with the Republican Party of Iowa to work for the Rick Perry campaign.
Gronewald, who was the deputy executive director for the state party, is considered an Iowa politics pro, several Iowa Republicans said.
Earlier this year, Gronewald, 30, of Clive, was Iowa director for Haley’s PAC, a political action committee created in anticipation of a presidential bid by Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. Barbour on April 24 decided against running, saying he didn’t have the fire in the belly for it.
Last year, Gronewald was a strategist behind the GOP legislative campaigns that led Republicans to win control of the Iowa House. In 2006, he managed Shell Rock Republican Bill Dix’s unsuccessful bid for Congress.
