MISSISSIPPIANS PAYING LESS FOR ELECTRICITY THAN MOST OF THE NATION

Advance Mississippi Issues Report on “Mississippi’s Affordable Electricity” showing that Mississippians pay 14% less than the national average.

(Jackson, Miss.)— Electricity rates in Mississippi are lower than many other areas of the country and the national average according to a detailed report issued today by Advance Mississippi. A review of the average residential rates shows customers in the state are paying 14% less on average than the rest of the country, while a review of commercial rates shows commercial rates in Mississippi are 9% below the national average.

“As America faces a growing demand for energy resources even during a national economic downturn, Mississippi citizens and businesses benefit from electricity rates that are far lower than the national average,” said Glenn McCullough, Chairman of Advance Mississippi.

“Because affordable, reliable, clean electricity is fundamental to economic growth and our quality of life this is one list all Mississippians can be proud of,” McCullough stated.

Blake Wilson, President of the Mississippi Economic Council (MEC) commented on Advance Mississippi’s analysis saying, “This information further highlights how Mississippi is a good place to do business, and how our citizens benefit from affordable electricity rates, even during a time when many other necessities are increasing in cost.”

Advance Mississippi’s analysis of the rates of the electricity providers in Mississippi, compared to average rates of the rest of the country, show clear benefits to residents and companies doing business in Mississippi. Below are the key findings from the analysis:

Average Rates Per Month ($/MWh)
