Ex-Judge reprimanded after improper subpoenas over Oliver Diaz leak

COVINGTON COUNTY, MS (WLBT) –
Former Simpson County Chancery Judge Larry Buffington has been publicly reprimanded in Covington County for his actions while serving on the bench.

The reprimand stems from his conduct in a Simpson County court in 2008. Judge Buffington had issued subpoenas commanding the members of the board of supervisors to appear before him as he attempted to determine who leaked information to the media that he had hired former supreme court justice Oliver Diaz as a youth court judge.

Two of the supervisors refused to appear and retained an attorney. The subpoenas did not indicate a title or cause number of any pending action. Judge Buffington said he knew the subpoenas were improper and didn’t care.
