Commission delays selection of new MDOT director
JACKSON, Miss. — The three-member Mississippi Transportation Commission will wait to hire a new executive director for the Department of Transportation until after the November election.
In a statement Tuesday, the commission says the decision came because it has a new member – Mike Tagert – elected in February and another commissioner – Wayne Brown – is not seeking re-election and such decisions should be left the next commission, which takes office in January.
The commission fired Butch Brown as MDOT director in February. Melinda McGrath, MDOT’s chief engineer, was named acting executive director.
