Pelahatchie Mayor Knox Ross appointed to Southern High-Speed Rail Commission
Pelahatchie Mayor Knox Ross can add another feather to his cap, now that Gov. Haley Barbour has appointed him to serve on the Southern High-Speed Rail Commission.
The purpose of the commission is to encourage development of a high-speed rail system, Ross said.
“I have a real interest in railroads and a real interest in transportation,” Ross said, adding that he is pleased to be serving on the commission. “And it’s always cool to be appointed by the governor.”
Comprised of three member states, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana, the commission sets forth plans for implementing a high-speed railway in the future. The commission was started in 1981, and Mississippi has been a member for almost 29 years.
