JACKSON – The Mississippi Senate voted down an amendment Tuesday that would have cut $65 million from Mississippi Adequate Education Program funding.
The Senate Appropriations Committee passed a strike-all amendment Tuesday that proposed cutting the House education bill by approximately $81 million.
Senator Briggs Hopson, R-Vicksburg, proposed an amendment to the strike-all amendment, which added $15 million to education funding and the amendment was approved. The amendment was co-authored by Senator Merle Flowers, R-Olive Branch.
Senator Gray Tollison, D-Oxford, encouraged the Senators to vote against the Senate education strike-all amendment, favoring the House bill, which offers level funding for Mississippi schools.
The Senate voted 22 in favor, 29 against the Senate education strike-all amendment.
