Gulfport continues harbor-lease talks
GULFPORT — Mayor George Schloegel said Wednesday he and his administration plan to continue negotiations on a harbor lease with Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann so the city can reopen the Bert Jones Yacht Basin by June 1.
Schloegel said he respects Council President Ricky Dombrowski’s decision to run for secretary of state because Dombrowski believes the city, rather than the state, owns the harbor, but ownership could take decades to sort out based on previous tidelands disputes.
