Mississippi Lawmaker Maintains Roles on Appropriations, Agriculture Panels

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) today reported his committee assignments for the 112th Congress, including the retention of his position as vice chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The Senate late Thursday approved an organizational resolution outlining committee memberships in the Senate for the new Congress.

“The United States faces some very serious challenges, particularly on issues related to economic growth, the national debt and the federal budget deficit. I will use my committee assignments to try to find workable solutions to those problems and to represent the best interests of Mississippians,” Cochran said.

On the Senate Appropriations Committee, Cochran retains his vice chairman status. He will also continue to serve on the following six subcommittees:
· Defense (ranking member)

· Agriculture, Rural Development and FDA

· Energy and Water Development

· Homeland Security

· Interior and Environment

· Labor, Health and Human Services and Education

Cochran will continue to serve on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry and will maintain his membership on the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration.
