Barbour courts Upstate Republicans

I’ve got to get my budget done in Mississippi,” he said. “I’m going to complete my obligations to the people of Mississippi before I run for anything else.”

Henry Barbour, the governor’s nephew who is considered an increasingly powerful player in the Republican Party, said Wednesday’s meetings in the Upstate were all about planting the flag and letting people know that his uncle is “seriously invested in it.”

Attendees of the Spartanburg meeting, held at the Palladian Group downtown, included: Spartanburg County councilmen O’Neal Mintz and David Britt; Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System President and CEO Ingo Angermeier; Spartanburg County Republican Party Chairwoman LaDonna Ryggs; Tindall Corp. Chairman Bill Lowndes; Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO David Cordeau; former House Speaker Pro Tem Doug Smith; and representatives from AT&T, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and Advance America.

State GOP Chairwoman Karen Floyd, who owns the Palladian Group, described the meeting with Barbour as “very positive.”
