Governor Barbour speaks at MLK day celebration
JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – Governor Haley Barbour spoke at Milsaps College this morning at the annual Millsaps-Tougaloo Martin Luther King Day celebration.
Barbour announced that beginning May 22-nd this year, around 125 freedom riders will come down to Mississippi to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the “Freedom Summer of 1961.”
This announcement also comes in light of a new civil rights museum coming to downtown Jackson. The initial proposal was to bring the site to Tougaloo College, but during Barbour’s state of the state he announced it’s change in location.
That’s something Tougaloo officials were initially surprised about.
