AG issues opinion in dispute between Canton aldermen and mayor
Several aldermen had sought his opinion, saying they were concerned that Truly was misusing authority during regular board meetings.
“I had been telling him he can’t sit there and flat out not recognize a motion,” Ward 2 Alderman Billy Myers said.
“I brought it up several times in public and private and no one said anything,” Myers said, “so I just put it in writing to the attorney general’s office and asked the questions.”
In late 2010, Myers, Ward 3 Alderman Charles Weems and Ward 4 Alderman Louis Smith requested an opinion from Hood on six issues about Truly’s authority:
